Police described the Belfast Multicultural Association fire on Friday morning as a “suspected blaze” and a “hate crime”.
This is the second fire at the center since January 2021 with a major investigation underway.
A ‘suspicious fire’ occurred on Donegal Pass in a South Belfast building on Friday, April 8 at dawn.
A spokesperson for the association said: “Roof repairs were completed on Wednesday, but last night we had a second attack on the building.
Our hopes and dreams are still burning.
Now we will not talk to the media or any politician. We have no words.”
Gerard Bullock, PSNI Superintendent, said: “Police were alerted of the building fire this morning at approximately 1:20pm. Officers attended with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Services who put out the fire. This is the second fire in this area since January 2021 and we have launched a major investigation. Led by detectives from the Masgrave Police Department. Police now consider the fire a suspect and a hate crime. “I appeal to anyone with known suspicious information or activity in this area late last night or this morning to contact Musgrave investigators at 101, referring to 70 04 /08/22. The report can also be prepared using the online reporting form at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport or, alternatively, information can be submitted anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800555111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. “Customers are still, but they are working on the site with specialized firefighters to determine the cause of the fire.
