The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into Ursula von der Leyen’s vaccine deals. Voters’ judgment looms at the EU elections in June. The bill for a failed balance sheet.
The EU elections in June will determine the verdict of 359 million Europeans after five years of action by the authorities in Brussels. The balance (see below) is blood red. If I were Mrs von der Leyen or Otmar Karas, the first of countless Vice-Presidents of the EU Parliament, my knees would be shaking and my insides would be on the verge of failure. However, given the enormous sense of mission that fills their self-righteous souls, this assessment is incorrect: the rulers, thousands of miles away from the citizens, wallow in the feeling of invulnerability. A recent example seems to represent only the tip of the Brussels iceberg.
“The biggest corruption scandal in history” – that was the headline of the German magazine “Cicero” on May 16, 2023. Did anyone suspect the ten billion euro Benko scandal? In no case: an unprecedented event was described during the procurement of vaccines by the EU – with a much larger volume (35 billion euros). This leads to an investigation into the machinations between council chairman Ursula von der Leyen and the head of the American company Pfizer, Albertos Bourla. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) recently took up the case. What’s behind it?
