The mother of a man who was shot in the legs while lying in bed says her son had a “terrible accident”.
Bernie McFadden spoke out after a masked gang blew up 38-year-old Evan Bradley at his Der Kerrigan home early this morning.
The 62-year-old says the gang shouted another name before climbing the steps of Kildrum Garden House to launch a brutal attack.
His armed mother, Bernie McFadden, entered his home after he knocked on his door.
He said: There were three. They were all masked. One of them said the target’s name, while the other two flew into Eoine’s room. It all happened quickly. I yelled at them, Eoin and I are just home and not what they were looking for, but they just ignored me and shot Eoine in every knee.
Then two armed men ran up the stairs and grabbed me, then followed a third man from my house.
I ran upstairs and found blood on the bed everywhere. I called the police and they called an ambulance. It was crazy. We should not allow these people to run around with guns and shoot innocent people.
“They shouted the wrong name and when I said that they ignored me and shot my son in bed. They obviously didn’t know who they were shooting.
“Society needs to know what these people can and can do. It’s all very common in this city.
“I’ve had callers in the house all morning sympathizing with me. Many know Eoin. He works and goes straight home. He’s a quiet person, not a good person for socializing and that keeps him in the same bed.
“I can’t wait to hear from the doctors at Altnagelvin Hospital to see if Ewen should be taken to Belfast Hospital if she can be treated here in Derry.”
Meanwhile, a PSNI spokesperson described the shooting as horrific.
They said, “After midnight we learned that three masked men entered the house. Two of them entered the bedroom where the man was sleeping and were shot twice, one in the leg. He was taken to hospital with his injuries.”
“Fortunately, the woman, who was also on the property at the time, did not suffer physical injuries, but was shaken by the accident.
