If Tyrolean provincial councilor Anton Mattle (ÖVP) and AK boss Erwin Zangerl have their way, electricity prices must be slowed down and standardized for everyone. Both are demanding a corresponding draft from the federal government by September. The implementation should take place in October.
The price of electricity in Hopfgarten more than doubled on August 15, as the “Tiroler Krone” reported in advance. And also in Wörgl, the utilities announced a huge increase from 1 October. The opposition there called for a special city council to be convened.
Because municipal energy suppliers sometimes charge very different prices for electricity, economic councilor Anton Mattle (ÖVP) and the chairman of the Tyrolean Chamber of Labor Erwin Zangerl left on Friday and called for a national brake on the electricity price.
In Germany, both argue for a uniform electricity price, regardless of whether the electricity is purchased from Tiwag or a municipal supplier. “The energy price at Tiwag is ten cents per kilowatt hour. With additional costs, consumers pay a total of 19 cents,” Mattle calculated. This price should apply to all Tyroleans.
Concept in September, implementation in October
“The brake on the electricity price has to be practical and reach people quickly,” added Zangerl, who again criticized the fact that “no one knows the different energy coupons anymore”. But an electricity price brake is not only necessary for private customers, but also for small and medium-sized enterprises, farmers, industry and the food sector. This must apply for a period of one year.
In addition, Mattle and Zangerl demanded compensation measures from the federal government, if necessary. A corresponding concept should be available in September and implemented in October.
