Talk to Katia Wagner – Ambassador: “We need guns, guns, guns!”

Date:

The images from Butscha have once again shaken the international community awake. In a conversation with Katia Wagner on Krone TV, the Ukrainian ambassador to Austria, Vasyl Khymynets, finds clear words for the suffering: “We Ukrainians are stunned. This is a war crime!”. For defense, his country needs one thing above all: “Weapons weapons, weapons”.

For the Ukrainian ambassador it is clear: “Putin only understands the language of force”. Butscha became another sad monument in this war. The responsibility for this lies not only with President Putin, but also with the entire Russian people. The fact that people have been “raped and slaughtered” shows Khymynets what a brutal people “the Russians are. This is a new dimension of inhumanity and the Russians have to answer for it,” the ambassador said.

Ex-FPÖ politician Mölzer: “You should have said ‘Not’ to Putin earlier”
While long-standing MEP Andreas Mölzer (FPÖ) is “nothing worth defending” over the atrocities, he does not want to allow “collective judgment” to apply to the Russian population. “These are also people who are in the Russian tanks,” says Mölzer. Was Austria’s proximity to Russia a mistake in the past? In any case, it may have “encouraged Putin to go that far”. “You should have said ‘rivet’ sooner,” says Mölzer.

Army colonel is also ‘shocked’
Colonel Bernhard Gruber of the army was also deeply moved by Butscha’s photos. “Something like this is always shocking, even if you handle it professionally,” says the commander. A new dimension is also the “information operation” that both sides would carry out. Through social networks, “war comes home to every individual”. In any case, one must be careful with the information, because in war the basic rule of “camouflage and cheat” applies. “There hasn’t been an open mind for a long time,” Gruber says.

Brodnig: ‘FPÖ has problematic position of Putin’
The journalist and fake news expert can easily refute the fact that Russia is trying to explain the photos from Bucha by saying that they are “constructed”. In general, the Russian “propaganda is impressively insubstantial”. In any case, it is not aimed at us in the West, but at our own population. However, she sees a “problematic position” with the FPÖ. “She stands out with her ‘You have to understand both sides’ attitude,” says the renowned author.

FPÖ veteran for more consistent sanctions
Mölzer contradicts this: Butscha’s actions were not understood anywhere. What is surprising, however, is his attitude to sanctions: “If there are sanctions, then they should be consistent”. Even Vadym Khymynets is amazed at the similarity with Mölzer over more consistent and tougher sanctions. He never thought he would be “in the same boat” with Mölzer. There was also agreement on the ambassador’s latest appeal: “We wish for peace”.
