The chairman of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and of the Supreme Court, Carlos Lesmes, assured this Monday that does not want to occupy any of the vacant seats in the Constitution and has denounced maneuvers to make him “falter” in his demand that the Council comply with the law and choose the two magistrates who correspond with him in the renewal of that court.

“I am against this institution defaulting on itself,” Lesmes emphasized in statements to journalists before the… inauguration of the new Attorney Generalin which he emphasized that whoever says his ambition is to reach the Constitutional Court “is lying with interest”.

The government knows this “perfectly”, having told her, she affirmed before insisting that under these circumstances it would seem “indecent” to “minimal rule” from her position as president of the GGPJ and the Supreme to gain access. to get to the Constitution.

He is visibly displeased with the information published about his alleged aspirations and the possible boycott of conservative members of the CGPJ on the appointment of magistrates to that court. They are, he said, movements to mediate him and make him “wobble” in his demand that the law be complied with and that the Council nominate its candidates.

Lesmes has hoped that a consensus will be reached within the Council, although not in the extraordinary plenary meeting to be held this Thursday, and has assured, after speaking with potential candidates, that “There are enough magistrates” from the Supreme Court who want to go to the Constitutional Court.

Asked about the possibility of an agreement between the two main parties to extend the CGPJ, which has been in office for almost four years, he was blunt: “Today I have no hope.”
