“Completely healthy” – Governor Wallner back on duty from Monday

Date:

Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) will return to work tomorrow, Monday, after his sick leave. Wallner announced that he would be “completely healthy and in good physical shape” for fall work. After medical tests, he was given the green light by his doctors to fully resume his work. He sees no risk of relapse – Wallner suffered from a state of exhaustion and severe symptoms of overexertion.

Vorarlberg’s head of government withdrew on June 22 after turbulent months to recover. A financial audit by the Vorarlberger Wirtschaftsbund, among other things, revealed inconsistencies and corruption charges against Wallner – in the form of an affidavit available to the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten” – were also made.

Since then, the prosecution for business and corruption has been investigating Wallner. However, the governor is still “just” a suspect, not an accused.

“Had an inner drive to recover quickly”
Wallner said in an interview with the APA that he himself had never had any doubts about his return — even though he had followed media speculation about it. “I had the inner drive to get well soon,” said Wallner. He also spent a lot of time with his family and, on doctor’s advice, went out into nature “almost every day, regardless of the weather.” Courage and confidence also gave him many get well wishes, which he received in the form of text messages and letters. “That built me up,” Wallner thanked.

Even during his hiatus, he always kept in touch with his government team through state governor Barbara Schöbi-Fink (ÖVP), albeit greatly reduced “and limited to the most important things”. He was involved in important decisions. It was a fortunate coincidence that his break came in the less hectic summer months, the governor said.

The fall work starts on Monday
The start of school in the West on Monday is a good time to get back to work in good health. “We’ll start the fall work on Monday,” Wallner says. After the first organizational steps, the head of government awaited “major substantive challenges” with themes such as inflation, the energy crisis, climate protection and the healthcare situation. “Quick decisions will be needed,” Wallner said with conviction.

The current situation requires the full commitment of all concerned to ensure stable conditions and minimize the burden on the population.
