‘Help is missing’ – union calls for earlier wage negotiations

Date:

The many effects of many crises promise a particularly hot rate fall. In the run-up to the autumn wage round, the union is not only pushing for a gross minimum wage of 2,000 euros. She also wants to bring forward KV negotiations for hundreds of thousands of workers in the transport and services sector, from railway workers to hairdressers. Those wouldn’t actually start until 2023 – months after the leading Metaller-KV negotiations, which begin Monday.

“Wages have to go up now, because the workers have to be able to make ends meet and live well on their income,” Vida boss and ÖBB works council chief Roman Hebenstreit demanded to journalists in Vienna on Wednesday. In particular, special collective bargaining is required for workers in all sectors relevant to vida. According to trade union information, more than 500,000 people work there. By far the largest individual company is the ÖBB, the largest subsector is tourism with approximately 220,000 employees.

criticism of government measures
“Due to the way the government is taking countermeasures, the emergency measures against inflation will die out very quickly for many people.” Hebenstreit is particularly concerned about the tourism industry, he emphasized. “It is up to the social partners to open a rescue package,” said the trade unionist. Of course, inflation also affects companies. However, it cannot be the case that companies enrich themselves from the destiny of the people while everyone is currently getting poorer.

On Wednesday, vida sent letters with corresponding requests for rapid inflation-related special KV negotiations to the social partner, the Economic Chamber (WKÖ). Speaking were President Harald Mahrer and the relevant WCÖ trade unions as negotiating partners for the union. This also includes the private health and care sector and the security industry. There has been no response for the time being.

“We don’t want to wait any longer”
“It is clear to us that the coming wage rounds will be an uphill battle,” Hebenstreit said. “But rising wages are now needed and as a vida association we don’t want to wait any longer.” “The vida also does not avoid labor disputes.” A substantial increase in real wages is necessary for everyone. The government measures against inflation and the planned abolition of cold progression are no arguments for lower KV degrees. Tax-free premium payments are not sustainable and are therefore not a substitute for increases in health insurance. It is about wages from which you can lead a good life.
