A first analysis of Tyrol after the extrapolation at 5 pm by Markus Gassler, head of the “Tiroler Krone” service:
Even if the Tyrolean People’s Party had the worst result since its inception, the overall crash – ie less than 30 percent, as some predicted – could be prevented. The minus – more than ten percentage points – is painful, but not as bad as in 1989: after the departure of country father Eduard Wallnöfer, blacks fell by 16 percent. Mattle will therefore most likely become the next Tyrolean governor, because no one within the ÖVP will dare to start a palace revolution. Which, in the case of a pair, would have been as sure as the Amen in prayer!
The race for second place has not yet been decided – but one of the two – either FPÖ or SPÖ – will exceed 20 percent. If it is the Reds, a two-party coalition with the ÖVP is formed. And it probably will.
The big election winner is the Fritz list, which has doubled in size, the Greens – along with the ÖVP – are the big loser: they will probably go single digit and be expelled from government.
