Ulster League leader Doug Petty has condemned the “unconscious fools” who put up one of his campaign posters with a noose around his neck outside an anti-protocol rally.
The poster was removed from the Lorgan chair on Friday night by fellow leaders Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Jim Alistair.
“He will not be intimidated, intimidated or distracted,” Mr. Beatty, who refused to participate in the demonstrations citing heightened tensions, told the Palestinian Authority News Agency.
A series of demonstrations are taking place in Northern Ireland, highlighting union and pro-union opposition to the post-Brexit Protocol, which provides for additional control of goods imported from Great Britain into Northern Ireland.
Unionists categorically oppose it as a frontier in the Irish Sea.
Mr Petty announced he would not attend the event after a security alert disrupted a peacekeeping operation in North Belfast, which Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coen addressed last month.
His county office in Portdowna was later attacked when a brick front window was destroyed.
Mr Petty said in response to the events of Friday night, “This is a poster and some stupid idiots put a noose on it – they don’t reflect the vast majority of people there.
“The poster could end up in the trash, and the window could be changed. My concern remains with the people of Northern Ireland. “Nothing has changed.”
Petty, an Army veteran who received the military cross, said he was described as a “traitor” at the event.
He said, “This is where my main frustration is when they call me Landy and a traitor when I obviously am not.
“I am a supporter of the union, and I will do my best for the people of this union.
He added: “I am not intimidated, intimidated or distracted from the path that I believe is the right path for the people of Northern Ireland, so nothing has changed.
I do not blame the vast majority of those present.
The perpetrators are the people who did it, they should answer the questions and we should not blame others when fools did it.
“It was dropped, and it ended up in the trash, as far as I think.”
Sir Geoffrey, Sir Alistair and Savior Jimmy Bryson spoke about the event on Friday night at Brownlow House.
Mr Alistair said he removed Mr Petty’s poster from the show because he thought his show, intentionally or unintentionally, was “completely inappropriate”.
He claimed that his confession was extracted under torture and that his confession was extracted under torture.
Sir Geoffrey told the gathering that his message at the event was one of the union’s joint efforts.
“We must unite. We must oppose protocol,” he said.
“The union has every right to publicly and peacefully express its open opposition to the protocol.
The Protocol undemocratically changed the constitutional position of Northern Ireland and dealt a severe blow to prosperity throughout our province.
“The Irish Sea border is not supported by any union”.
