Now something has happened again: once again the Styrian KPÖ MP got carried away in making a controversial statement in the debate on the war in Ukraine. At a seminar organized by the Anti-Imperialist Coordination (AIK) on Sept. 10, he said Ukraine should also pay reparations and also recommended the establishment of autonomous republics such as South Tyrol around Donetsk and Luhansk.
“The sanctions are against international law because they can only be set by the UN Security Council. This sanctions regime is currently being used as a scammer.” At a meeting of the Anti-Imperialist Coordination (AIK) Werner Murgg again did not mince his words. His statements are videotaped and provide explosive material. For example, he calls for a referendum in Crimea, “which ends with 80 percent for Russia anyway.”
He calls for a neutrality status for Ukraine, similar to that of Austria. The Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, now claimed by Russia, will be given an autonomy status similar to that of South Tyrol. “And of course it’s also about reparations – from Russia to Ukraine, but also vice versa, for all the destruction Ukraine has caused in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014.”
Murgg has been criticized repeatedly in the past for his pro-Russian stance. For example, he gave an interview on Belarusian state television, where he praised the dictatorial regime for stability and order there – or when he once celebrated the “five years of independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic” in eastern Ukraine.
