“Stability in crisis” – Black and red should be in Tyrol by October 25

Date:

The grand coalition in Tyrol has been history since 2013 and is now experiencing a revival: ÖVP leader Anton Mattle and SPÖ party leader Georg Dornauer want to talk about a government, as announced Monday evening. “Open Results”, as it was called by both sides. On Tuesday, party leaders met before the press for the first time and presented an initial timetable.

First rehearsal of the grand coalition in the Innsbruck mansion: the party leaders Anton Mattle and Georg Dornauer did not announce side by side on Monday evening, but successively what was expected since the state elections. The start of coalition negotiations. Late Tuesday morning, party leaders released a roadmap for the coalition negotiations side-by-side for the first time.

Ten negotiating teams
Under the motto “Stability in the crisis, renewal in Tyrol”, Zwart and Rood want to discuss the various negotiating teams on Tuesday afternoon. There should be ten in all.

“Quick in action”
Mattle and Dornauer unanimously stressed that speed is now important so that action can be taken quickly. “But we will give the negotiating teams enough time to cover the broad topics,” said the VP boss. The current goal is for the coalition memorandum to be ready on 25 October and the cabinet team to be presented.

Dornauer explained that “big problems would require big solutions”. “Given the major challenges, a stable and reliable government is needed. We need to speed up the pace, especially in the areas of housing, energy and care,” said the SP chairman. If a coalition was actually formed, the ÖVP and SPÖ would have 21 of the 36 mandates in the Tyrolean state parliament. , like the ÖVP, Greens and NEOS, only had 19.

No “insurmountable obstacles”
Mattle said Monday night that talks with the Social Democrats have not seen “insurmountable hurdles” — unlike talks about possible three-party coalitions. Mattle called the expansion of the Kaunertal plant, which he absolutely wants, but which was “not a viable option” for parties other than the SPÖ. Mattle stressed that the negotiations will be “open-ended”. But he no longer has many alternatives after he had already excluded the FPÖ before the elections and an alliance with Neos and the Greens would falter in the state parliament.

In his statement, Dornauer also spoke of openness to results. At the heart of the negotiations between the ÖVP and SPÖ are two main issues: childcare and housing. Dornauer has taken clear positions on both, elevating his model to the right to care as a coalition condition. When it came to housing, Dornauer suggested “heavy taxes” for mobilizing building land. However, VP boss Mattle does not assume that the negotiations will fail in the final meters.
