Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) gets a new head of cabinet. Andreas Achatz will take over from Markus Gstöttner as of October 18, the Chancellery confirmed on Friday. Gstöttner, who is considered a close confidant of ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP), is leaving politics at his own request in the direction of the private sector, it is said.
Achatz worked for many years as a private secretary at the Ministry of the Interior and was succeeded there by Christian Stella, who previously served as chief of the air traffic police. Daniel Kosak and Daniela Fazekas remain deputy heads of cabinet in the Chancellery.
In the future, Kosak will be more involved in the Chancellor’s strategic communication, Fazekas – together with Viktor Niedermayr – will take care of Nehammer’s press agenda, it is said.
“I would like to thank Markus Gstöttner for his extraordinary commitment at a time defined by global crises and I look forward to working with Andreas Achatz, whom I already know well from my time as a minister at the Ministry of the Interior”, said chancellor. Nehammer on the change.
