Despite the wave of inflation – rain of money for parties: there are 224 million €

Date:

The promotion of the parliamentary groups in Austria is considered particularly generous. Compared to the previous year, the federal and state governments are paying more this year.

In total, the federal and state governments are distributing almost 224 million euros to parties and factions this year. This was the result of a series of investigations by the APA against the state governments. Compared to last year, subsidies have increased by 4.3 million euros, but the increase is well below inflation.

Parties in Vienna receive 41.8 million euros
At the federal level, the parties, parliamentary clubs and party academies will receive 66.7 million euros, followed by Vienna with 41.8 million euros, Styria with 27.7 million euros, Upper Austria with 27.1 million euros and Lower Austria with 24 .9 million euros. In Tyrol, parties and state parliament clubs receive about ten million euros, in Carinthia 9.4 million euros, in Salzburg 7.7, in Vorarlberg 4.4 and in Burgenland 4.2 million.

Vaccination party MFG receives 1.2 million euros in Upper Austria
In general, the ÖVP comes out the best, the Turks receive 78 million euros. The SPÖ will raise 59.8 million euros, the FPÖ 34.7 million, the Greens 28.3 million euros and the NEOS 15.9 million euros. The KPÖ, which is strong in Styria, comes to 1.5 million euros, the anti-vaccination party MFG, whose representatives like to emphasize that they are not politicians, will receive 1.2 million euros in Upper Austria.

In an international comparison, party funding in Austria is considered particularly generous. The political scientist Hubert Sickinger points out, for example, that direct party funding in Germany, which is ten times as large, is capped at 200 million euros.
