Now he must serve a year of house arrest before being released on parole, according to Etxerat’s announcement.
Euskaraz irakurri: Ion Parot ETAko has captured Mureteko
Former ETA member Ion Parot left the French prison of Muret this Thursday, according to his Twitter account Etxerat.
“After 32 and a half years in prison, the Baiona prisoner is on the street,” reports the association of relatives of Basque political prisoners and exiles.
Parot, imprisoned in France and sentenced to life imprisonment for participating in several ETA attacks in Spain, must serve a year of house arrest, with certain hours a day, before being released on parole.
The sentencing chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal accepted his request for parole on September 22, which the prosecution had opposed. Once out of prison, he remains under house arrest for a year with an electronic bracelet. During the next ten years, he must comply with a series of movement restriction obligations.
Ion Kepa Parot was arrested in April 1990, along with Jakes Esnal and Frederik Haramburu, all members of the Argala commando. The three were sentenced to life imprisonment by the French judiciary. They have all been released on parole. For example, Haranburu was released from prison at the end of November 2020, Ion Kepa Parot has left her today and Esnal is expected to do so on the 18th.
