The General Secretariat of the Penal Institutions, dependent on the Ministry of the Interior, has announced the approach to the Euskal Herria prisons of another 11 prisoners of the disappeared ETA.
One of the prisoners transferred in this new group is Andoni Otegi, who will leave Logroño prison to go to another prison designated by the Basque government after the transfer from the Spanish government. This is one of the prisoners who participated in the restorative encounters confidential with victims.
According to the agency dependent on the Ministry of the Interior, Mattin Sarasola is one of the other prisoners who were brought to Euskal Herria – from Dueñas prison.
Also included is Harriet Iragi – currently in Logroño -. Asier Arzalluz will leave Logroño prison to go to another one in Euskadi. Among the detainees approached are Gurutz Agirresarobe, Julen Atxurra and Iker Olabarrieta.
In addition, two prisoners transferred from France will be taken to Basque prisons. They are Itziar Moreno and Iratxe Sorzabal, the latter former head of ETA in the provisional prison. The Interior Ministry has decided to transfer him pending the final sentence.
The Victims of Terrorism Association (AVT) has criticized the fact that the General Secretariat of Penal Institutions, dependent on the Ministry of the Interior, is completing its plan to “bring home” all ETA prisoners for Christmas. “The children in the cemeteries are no longer the same for everyone,” he lamented, criticizing the “indifference” towards the victims.
According to Sare, after these transfers, there would be a total of 34 prisoners in Spanish state prisons and another 18 in French prisons. The number of ETA prisoners in the prisons of Euskadi, Navarra and the Spanish state stands at 198. Of these, 137 are in CAV prisons and 9 in Navarre.
