Vienna lights up red – Corona traffic light: high risk for all of Austria

Date:

On Thursday, the Corona Commission spoke out in favor of a constant risk assessment of the epidemiological development, which means that the traffic light remains orange. Austria was already classified as “high risk” last week and in this week’s federal state assessment, Vienna is the only one with a risk number above 100, which means “very high” and thus red. Upper Austria and Vorarlberg were classified as “medium risk”.

The other six federal states have the same risk level as the entire federal state and are therefore also orange – last week Carinthia, Lower Austria and Tyrol were assessed one step better.

Hospitals increasingly taxed
As of October 12, the load on intensive care units was a Covid-specific occupancy rate of 6.3 percent based on all reported adult intensive care beds in Austria; for the normal departments this value was 6.6 percent in all of Austria. A week ago, these two values were still at 3.9 and 5.1 percent, respectively.

Forecast optimistic
According to the prognosis, the number of cases should level off more and more. The load on normal wards in hospitals with corona-positive patients will initially increase, it was recently said, but this increase is decreasing and the peak in bed cover could be reached soon. A slight increase is expected in intensive care.

Commission recommends FFP2 mask
The Corona Commission recommends making more use of Covid-19 vaccinations and medicines in addition to the test offer. In addition, it is recommended to wear an FFP2 mask on public transport, in crowded indoor areas and when in contact with vulnerable people. Furthermore, one should – as usual – ventilate regularly, keep a distance and take hygienic measures such as regular handing. Wash.

Likely more cases of the “real flu”
Not least because of the corona measures, there have been hardly any flu infections in the past two years. As a result, the population was barely vaccinated and there could be more cases of “real flu” this year, it was recalled. This would lead to an additional burden on the health care system.

However, some corona measures such as wearing a mouth cap, ventilation and hygiene would also protect very well against infections with the flu virus, and the Corona Commission also pointed out the importance of flu vaccination.
