On Monday afternoon, the Interior Ministry announced the official results of the October 9 presidential election. There were no more changes in the voting shares for the candidates. Alexander Van der Bellen won the election with 56.69 percent. After the announcement, the one-week period for contesting the elections to the Constitutional Court (VfGH) will begin and end at midnight on October 24.
None of the candidates who applied should consider this possibility. In principle, only the so-called “authorized recipients” of the candidates have the right to object. An objection can also come from those candidates who ran in the run-up to the election but did not receive enough support to get on the ballot. These are Robert Marschall, Wolfgang Ottowitz, Johann Peter Schutte and David Packer. Packer’s election proposal was deemed not to have been submitted at the time due to the lack of a contribution towards the costs of EUR 3,600, but he still has the right to challenge it.
Rosencrantz in the final result below 18 percent
According to the official final result, 4,148,082 (previously 4,148,079) votes were cast, with 6,363,336 ultimately eligible to vote. Of these, 4,056,729 votes were valid (previously 4,056,731). Van der Bellen now received 2,299,590 votes, or 56.69 percent. As in the provisional final result, 717,097 Austrians voted for Rosencrantz, or 17.68 percent.
Party leader Dominik Wlazny received 337,010 votes (8.31 percent) and 327,214 voters (8.07 percent) voted for lawyer Tassilo Wallentin. Another 225,942 votes (5.57 percent) went to former FPÖ/BZÖ politician Gerald Grosz, 85,465 votes (2.11 percent) to MFG boss Michael Brunner and another 64,411 (1.59 percent) to shoe manufacturer Heinrich Staudinger. .
Turnout at 65 percent
The turnout remained at 65.19 percent. The changes in the eligible voters and the votes cast result from later minor corrections by individual municipalities. The result was announced after the meeting of the Federal Electoral Authority on the official bulletin board of the Federal Ministry and on the Internet.
