Gogora wants to buy the palace La Puente de Trucios to dedicate it to the Basque government in exile

Gogora has made a budget forecast in view of the possibility that the property will be put up for sale by the current owners. This palace was the venue for the last meetings of Lehendakari Agirre’s Executive on Basque territory.

The draft budget of the Institute of Remembrance, Coexistence and Human Rights-Gogora, approved today, provides for the purchase of the La Puente palace in Trucios (Bizkaia), for an amount €1,200,000.

According to Gogora in a note, this palace has historical value and symbolic character: it was the seat of the last meetings of the Basque government of Lehendakari Agirre in Basque territory.

This fiscal forecast for the fiscal year 2023 is rooted in the possibility that the property will be put up for sale by the current owners, which is interpreted as “an opportunity to acquire it”, as explained by the Deputy Minister of Human Rights, Memory and collaboration, Jose Antonio Rodriguez Ranzo.

In addition, Rodríguez Ranz has pointed out that the possibility will be analyzed to dedicate the space to the Basque government in exile, related to the rest of the exhibition spaces of the Memory Network in the Basque Country, and to link it to the Memory Routes project in the vicinity of Trucios and the development of the Encartaciones themselves.

the lehendakari Inigo Urkullu chaired the meeting of the board of directors of the Institute for Remembrance, Coexistence and Human Rights, Gogora, which was held this afternoon at its headquarters in Bilbao.

Beatriz ArtolazabalMinister of Equality, Justice and Social Policy, and Aintzane Ezenarrodirector of the Gogora Institute, also participated in this meeting.

At the meeting, the draft Gogora budget for the year 2023 was approved for an amount of €5,247,000.
