The arguments and chaos in the capital have now led to a political sensation. With immediate effect, the Carinthia team separates itself from the Scheider list.
Constant arguments, no budget, the chaos surrounding the post of municipal director, the hunt for an informant in the town hall, overtime, the confusion surrounding the indoor swimming pool – the list of political problems in Klagenfurt is long. Mayor Christian Scheider is often the center of attention – apparently that was too much for his colleagues from Team Carinthia.
“We have given the team in Klagenfurt all the freedom and opportunities and consciously kept it out of political and internal affairs in order to give the Scheider list the greatest possible independence,” TK boss Gerhard Köfer emphasized on Friday. “Unfortunately, we realized that internal disputes and a lack of political consistency have made cooperation difficult in recent years. There can be no ‘business as usual’.”
Despite the divorce, Köfer finally strikes a conciliatory tone: “I wish Mayor Christian Scheider and his municipal group all the best for the future.”
Scheider sees no impact on city politics
The mayor himself takes the decision calmly. “It was fundamentally surprising and also a shame, but we are a strong group in our own right and achieved good results in the elections on our own,” Scheider explains. “I believe that rumors about alleged negotiations with the FPÖ are the reason. Our aim is always to gain support for important issues in the municipality.”
He emphasizes that the separation will have no consequences for business operations in the city. “What needs to change? The city issues have nothing to do with it,” Scheider said.
