Metaller-KV – haggling enters the 3rd round, warning strikes threaten

Date:

Next Monday, employees and employers will meet for the third round of collective labor agreement negotiations for the 130,000 employees in the metalworking industry. The unions PRO-GE and GPA demand 10.6 percent more wages and salaries, the employers (FMTI) offer 4.1 percent. After the second round of negotiations, workers’ representatives had scheduled work meetings, which could culminate in warning strikes on Monday if no agreement is reached.

Your offer for a 4.1 percent wage increase would cover core inflation, which excludes energy costs from the inflation calculation, as the price volatility in this area is imported — and employers and workers alike are affected, FMTI chairman Christian Knill recently said.

Proposal is a “provocation”
However, the collaborators around Rainer Wimmer (PRO-GE) and Karl Dürtscher (GPA) see the 4.1 percent proposal as a provocation and point to significantly higher inflation. Moreover, the temporary workers and the students would receive nothing at all.

Countless autumn pay rounds
Retail is already in the autumn wage round, where a wage and salary increase of 10 percent is required, but the employer has not yet made an offer. Telekom Austria’s workforce has also started, they want 10.6 percent more. The ÖBB subsidiary Postbus is already negotiating, here the request for an increase of 11.65 percent is on the table, 7 percent was offered.
