Early date – Ludwig spoke – and still benefited

Date:

It was the appointment for the Vienna elections from autumn until April during the blue and black government negotiations in the federal government when mayor Michael Ludwig (Spö). They wanted to score in the capital with a blue enemy image in the chancellery. As is known, the comrades had spoken – and yet the new appointment turned out to be a bit lucky.

The real reason for the provisional laying, a “blue-black debris” in the federal government under a possible FPö Chancellor Herbert Kickl, soon fell away, ÖVP, Spö and Neos were still together for a Civic Alliance. The other side of the coin: the Vienna FPö could have given a blue chancellery even more than the narrow training that it finally became.

Unexpected good atmosphere instead of polarization under blue -black
The triple coalition in the federal government has not shot a large dollar in the first few weeks, the mood is described as well by observers. The Vienna Spö used this, say political experts Peter Filzmaier and Thomas Hofer.

Exclusion of FPö “Almost Folklore in Wiener Spö”
For Hofer it is “convincing” that Ludwig continues to exclude a coalition with the FPö. “This is almost folklore in the Vienna Spö”, where you have always organized yourself as an antithesis for freedom. If Ludwig opened the door to the FPö, “it would be very dangerous”. According to Filzmaier, the FPö could not exploit its full potential of voters for this reason because a government participation was not an option.

Despite the free cheers about strong growth, Filzmaier says: “It’s a good result, but not very good and certainly not excellent.” According to voters, the FPö could get former ÖVP voters. However, it was hardly possible to pick up voters who stayed at home in 2020. Hofer also sees a “gap between urban and rural” with nothing.

Law and Order at ÖVP: “This is certainly not enough in the long term”
Such a gap also exists with the ÖVP. This has hardly positioned itself as an economic party in Vienna, but on the core topic of the FPö, safety. “This is certainly not enough in the long term,” says Hofer, who sees little effect on federal politics. Filzmaier also locates a negative spiral in the cities for the ÖVP Chancellor Party, not least because of the demographic development. Moreover, the ÖVP has hardly any structures in urban space.

According to Hofer, the ÖVP must also face the fact, by the Neos, “some of which came from the ÖVP meat”. “It should actually make all the alarm bells.” For Filzmaier, the pinks also offer “the model that younger Bourgeois wishes”.
