The mayoral elections are taking place today in twelve municipalities. The first results are clear and there are already some changes.
In Eltendorf, Christian Schaberl of the Free Citizens List triumphed with 59.6 percent against ÖVP deputy mayor Hannes Siemeister (40.4 percent). The turnout was 77.45 percent, just under three weeks. The new mayor wants to try to work with all political groups: “If possible, I want unanimous decisions in the city council,” says Schaberl. Important projects are the provision of medical care, better internet coverage for the Zahling district and the construction of construction sites.
There was a narrow SPÖ victory in Loipersdorf-Kitzladen: Jürgen Zimara won with 547 votes (50.4 percent) against ÖVP mayor Thomas Böhm with 538 votes (49.6 percent). Five years ago, there was also a runoff between the two. Then Boehm still won.
In Kukmirn, incumbent Werner Kemetter (ÖVP) clearly had the upper hand. He won with 62.6 percent of the vote against Klaus Krobath (BMK) with 37.4 percent.
Frankenau-Unterpullendorf is destroyed. Here SPÖ candidate Paul Fercsak won from the SPÖ with 50.6 percent of incumbent Angelika Mileder (ÖVP). In the end, only twelve votes were decisive.
There is a new mayor in Großhöflein: Maria Zoffmann (ÖVP) defeated the incumbent Heinz Heidenreich (SPÖ) by 50.3 percent and eight votes.
The Reds are doing better in St. Andrä am Zicksee: Michael Schmidt (SPÖ) gets 58 percent, replacing the incumbent Andreas Sattler (ÖVP).
The SPÖ currently has 90 mayors, the ÖVP and its associated lists 70 and the citizen lists five local heads. Six parishes are still open. The last polling stations close at 4 p.m.
