The facts assessed refer to a frustrated attack on May 20, 1985, when ETA’s Araba commando planted a car bomb next to the Mendizorrotza stadium in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The National Court has sentenced the former ETA leader to 425 years in prison Marisol Iparragirre. The magistrates charge her with 20 counts of attempted murder and consider it proven that she was the one who drove the car bomb that exploded in the attack on a national police officer on May 20, 1985 in Vitoria-Gasteiz. The device did not explode because it was deactivated by the TEDAX specialists.
This trial had already taken place in December 2020 and the National Supreme Court acquitted her in March 2021, but the Supreme Court later ordered it to be repeated with other magistrates, describing it as a “serious mistake” that the evaluation of a defendant’s test fingerprints omitted, found in the car bomb.
After holding a new trial, the chamber finds proven that Marisol Iparraguirre on May 19, 1985 “was driving the vehicle in whose trunk an explosive device was installed, which was left parked on the esplanade of the Mendizorroza Sports Center in the city of Vitoria, along with to the place where the police vans used to be parked, on the days of sporting events, where the load was directed to the lockers”.
The sentence indicates that there is effective evidence that Marisol Iparragirre was in the vehicle: “There are four tracks of Marisol Iparragirre on the steering wheel of the car that was loaded with the explosive,” it reads.
The sentence indicates that according to the Criminal Code that will apply, the maximum term of compliance should not exceed thirty years.
