Ex-BZÖ politician Stefan Petzner reveals the audio file between Sebastian Kurz and Thomas Schmid. That’s fine with the ex-chancellor.
He is a mystery to the public. Although his chats are known all over Austria, how does Thomas Schmid actually speak? You can listen to that. Ex-BZÖ politician Stefan Petzner published the 13-minute recording of the telephone conversation between Sebastian Kurz and Schmid on Twitter. Kurz had taken the call in October 2021 to relieve him. After attorney Werner Suppan handed the audio file to the WKStA, it went to the investigation file. This means that all suspects in the proceedings have access to the files.
Can Petzner do that at all?
But is Petzner allowed to leak the audio file at all? The ex-politician argues that publication is allowed because of increased public interest. Kurz himself doesn’t seem to have a problem with the leak.
The ex-chancellor himself spread Petzner’s disclosure via his Twitter account – requesting that everyone can now “see for themselves that Schmid is trying to obtain leniency status by making a false statement to the WKStA.”
Phone call made via signal
Those close to Kurz have said that the ex-chancellor finds it absurd that Schmid, who was recently “public enemy number 1”, is now celebrated as a national hero and that his statements are read like the Bible. In addition, calls were made via Signal, a bug-proof messaging service, so there was no reason to fear a WKStA eavesdropping campaign.
