Begoña Galdeano and Edurne Brouard, daughters of two victims of the GAL, have demanded an “unambiguous statement” and “at the highest institutional level” from the Spanish government for the “taking of responsibilities and acknowledgment of the damage caused”, the two women stressed at a conference press in Bilbao. “We don’t need generic beliefs that absolve many of their responsibility,” they added.

Likewise, they have asked the Spanish government to “release” the documents that allow “solving the crimes arising from state terrorism”, after the ex-minister Jose Barrionuevo has “bragged” about waging the dirty war against ETA.

They announced that the family of Jose Maria Larretxea Goniwhose kidnapping – aborted by the French gendarmerie in October 1983 – was ordered by Barrionuevo, “is studying the possibility of filing a criminal complaint” against the former minister for those events.

the daughters of Santi Brouard and Xabier Galdeanomurdered by the GAL in 1984 and 1985 respectively, have appeared before the media at an event organized by the Egiari Zor Fundazioa entity, which brings together relatives and victims of police brutality.

“Spanish justice has never shown interest in solving crimes committed by state terrorism”

They have read a text in Basque and Spanish in which they underline this in their interview The countryBarrionuevo “recognizes what we have denounced for decades: that the state, by Government of Felipe González He used terrorism and the dirty war, which under his command members of the state security forces and paid mercenaries acted as executors, whom (the former minister) refers to as colleagues who shoot from their trenches.”

They considered that the Prosecutor ‘must act ex officio’ for this question. “If, as the current Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, says, the reported events were acts of terrorism and the truth does not dictate, his (Barrionuevo’s) admission of an impunity and non-judicial act should lead to the opening of legal proceedings to clarify the facts and assign responsibilities,” they stressed.

They have said they are not surprised that the prosecution is doing nothing, as “Spanish justice has never shown any interest in solving the crimes committed by state terrorism”.

The daughters of Santi Brouard – leader of HB – and Xabier Galdeano – deputy of aegin in Iparralde – have assured that “no political party, no government has so far taken responsibility for these very serious events”, which they say “are on the political acronyms ranging from the UCD and his heirs of Popular Alliance (now PP) to the PSOE“.
