The trial of former Green politician Christoph Chorherr and nine other defendants continued today, Monday, at the Vienna Regional Court. The former mandatary of the town hall is accused of demanding or accepting payments from well-known real estate companies for a non-profit organization he founded.
Chorherr’s association supports aid projects in Africa. In return, the donors would have promised themselves benefits in the dedication process. The Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA) accuses the former Green mandatary of abuse of office and bribery, the entrepreneurs foresee abuse of office and bribery in various forms of employee participation.
Co-defendants include investor Rene Benko, industrialist Michael Tojner, and real estate developers Erwin Soravia and Günter Kerbler.
Lawyers deny allegations
At the start of the process last Tuesday, the first opening speeches were scheduled. The lawyers for the parties involved had all rejected the allegations. The pleas continued today with presentations from representatives of several companies that the WKStA says are involved in the case.
Because the Public Prosecution Service has also applied for a fine under the Association Responsibility Act against a total of 21 associations, i.e. project companies. After the opening speeches, the suspects are questioned for the first time about the allegations.
