After possible abuse of a baby from the Tulln district in Lower Austria, custody has been imposed on the 21-year-old father. “The risk of committing a crime was believed to be the reason for detention,” Leopold Bien, spokesman for the St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office, said Monday. A preliminary investigation into continued violence against both parents of the month-old baby is ongoing. The 20-year-old mother was released on bail.
Bien explained to the APA that the 21-year-old is in custody and his partner is not, saying “the suspicion is more pressing against the father than the mother”. In general, the studies are still in the early stages. The pre-trial detention imposed on the suspect is limited to November 28.
Baby flown to clinic in Vienna
The baby was taken to Tulln State Clinic on Friday. Hospital staff reported the incident, father and mother were provisionally detained. Due to the initially life-threatening injuries, the child was flown by emergency helicopter to the AKH in Vienna and treated in intensive care there.
fractures of both lower legs
Among other things, the baby was diagnosed with fractures of both lower legs and a cerebral hemorrhage – probably caused by external violence. The child’s health stabilized over the weekend. However, serious long-term consequences could not be assessed or excluded.
Custody of the child was withdrawn from the parents by the Tulln County Authority. During questioning, the 21-year-old stated that he “acted too brutally” when handling the baby.
