Bang effect in Graz – after budgetary misery: financial director resigns

Date:

A stunner in the Graz financial thriller: Stefan Tschikof resigns as financial director of the state capital of Styria. His successor is the former financial director of Innsbruck, Johannes Müller.

That came as a surprise: after the commotion about the imminent bankruptcy of the Mur metropolis, including the scolding of the Court of Auditors, the financial director resigned. Officially, Tschikof will resign on November 17 for “private reasons”. “I want to thank Stefan Tschikof from the bottom of my heart for the great cooperation in the past year. Unfortunately, his decision must be taken into account,” said Manfred Eber, councilor for finance of the KPÖ.

Johannes Müller now succeeds him on an interim basis. Ironically, the 43-year-old recently worked at the city’s accounting office, so he knows the problems of the Graz budget all too well. “It will not be easy in the short to medium term. I will do my best and believe in the power of transparent, appreciative and clear communication, trust and responsibility,” says the Tyrolean, who was financial director of Innsbruck during the Corona period between June 2020 and July 2021.

“In Johannes Müller we have a proven expert on the Graz house and I look forward to working with him,” says Eber. In the first quarter of 2023, there will be a call for vacancies for the position of Head of Finance. At Müller’s request, Tschikof remains a staff position in the finance department.
