Although they do not fall under the general scheme, the 280 nurses in the prisons should now also be able to benefit from the care bonus. This is “a sign of appreciation for their excellent work,” Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens) said on Thursday.
“The nurses in Austrian prisons make an irreplaceable contribution to modern prisons,” explains Zadic of the judicial care bonus, which will be paid in January. At 2,500 euros, this is more generous than the premium of 2,000 euros provided for in the Special Assistance Wage Increase Act (which only improves Niederösterreich by 500 euros).
It is not yet certain whether this will be a fixed salary component in the future. According to Minister of Social Affairs Johannes Rauch (Greens), this is to be expected with the general bonus, and this is also being considered in the judiciary.
Criticism and selective bonus
The Austrian Health and Nursing Association (ÖGKV) has already criticized the fact that not all caregivers receive the general bonus – even those in the military or freelancers are exempt. He also complained that the payment was gross and not net. Rauch said such a high premium would not have been enforceable against Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP).
