Deadline approaching – Beer Party: polls good, but election entry is shaky

Date:

The self-imposed deadline to determine whether the Beer Party will actually participate in this year’s National Council elections or not is fast approaching. There are only 34 days left before the political project will reach its funding target of 1.2 million euros, but we are still far from that.

After Dominik Wlazny’s surprising success in the federal presidential elections, current surveys show that the Beer Party is likely to be very happy with her entry into the National Council. However, party founder Wlazny never tires of emphasizing that he wants to build up enough of a party base to actually offer ‘all’ Austrians a voting option.

About 700,000 euros are missing from the ‘parliamentary party’
20,000 supporters, or 1.2 million euros, are needed to take the step to the National Council and establish a “parliamentary party” – the money must be raised by April 30 without major donors. Eight weeks after the start of the campaign, the total is just over 500,000 euros, Wlazny explained at a press conference.

This casts doubt on whether the remaining amount can even be raised on time in such a short time. But even if that doesn’t work, Wlazny doesn’t really want to rule out participation if the target is missed. Yet he seemed somewhat disillusioned in his statement – in particular, the accusation that has often been made recently about the party’s lack of substance is not particularly well received by him.

Anger about reporting
During the federal presidential elections, he was accused of actually running for elections to the National Council with his subjects – but now that many in the public no longer want to recognize this content as such, the full-time singer of the band Turbobier is annoyed – from women’s politics towards one From ‘real healthcare reform’ to social justice, he also mentioned various sections about the direction in which the party would like to go.

Wlazny already covers these topics every Thursday on his YouTube channel, where he uses the slogan “Talk about it!” Despite multiple crises, it is important for him to point out that “not everything is so bad.”

Building the party “was always easy”
He promised to formulate the ideas in detail, including financing options. Setting up a party is “always easy” and building one takes time. The next step is to provide a forum for the people in the country with monthly ‘regulars’ meetings. The concrete party line will also emerge – and an attempt will also be made to recruit new members.

Teams are currently being formed at the ‘headquarters in Vienna’ to ‘develop projects’, he was again rather vague. Wlazny emphasized that they are staffed with experts, but declined to name names when asked. The developed projects would then have to be discussed at one of the ‘standing tables’ that would be set up in all 39 regional constituencies.

Massive crowds in Vienna, moderate interest in the West
They want to continue recruiting members over the next four weeks, after events in Vienna, Graz and Salzburg and soon in Innsbruck and Linz. These events serve to “get to know the people involved with us”. At the beginning of February, so many people came to the introduction in the reception center on the Vienna Schmelz that some did not even enter. “I would like to apologize for that. Next time we will go to the town hall,” Wlazny said optimistically.

“What rhymes with beer?”
Just over a week ago, the crowd was considerably smaller in Salzburg, where only about 40 interested parties took part in Wlazny’s absence. But that apparently does not dampen confidence in the party – at the end of the press conference Wlazny emphasized the power of commonality: ‘What rhymes with beer? We!”
