A man (26) caused a commotion in the south of Burgenland on Tuesday evening. While football fans were cheering on our national team’s match against Turkey, the drunk man attracted the attention of the neighbors. Intoxicated, he jumped from the first floor and then barricaded himself in the apartment from the police.
Dramatic scenes took place in Riedlingsdorf in the Oberwart district around 9 p.m. One resident became nervous due to too much alcohol in the blood. When a woman came to visit, the young man became angry, went to the balcony and jumped from the first floor into the street.
Threatened with murder
The shocked sister called the police. When several patrol cars arrived at the home address, her brother panicked. According to eyewitnesses, he insulted the officers and threw shards of glass out the window at them: “Sneak away, otherwise I will kill you!”
Targeted use of pepper spray
All attempts to calm the rioter in a conversation at the blocked entrance failed. The 26-year-old became even more aggressive. The alarmed fire brigade eventually opened the closed door. In anger, the violent man attacked the police officers in his apartment with his fists raised. Pepper spray was used against him.
Perpetrator spat on officers
The aggressive attacker could be overwhelmed. The officers led him away in handcuffs and the perpetrator spat on a police officer. Emergency services paramedics provided first aid. Dozens of residents followed the large-scale operation with fascination, some filming the wild scenes on their mobile phones.
Almost 1.5 per mille, vertebral fracture
As accident doctors from the Oberwart Hospital later discovered, the well-known man had broken his second lumbar vertebra when he jumped from the balcony. The patient, who had an intake of just less than 1.5 per mille, was transferred to Graz.
