Angry calls from the nurses at the editorial office of “Krone”. They are pissed because in the end only 800 euros remain of the promised extra salary of 2000 euros.
Martin R. has been a nurse for ten years. When he looked at his account on December 1, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Ultimately, the healthcare allowance of 2,000 euros will not amount to a four-figure amount. “I have never called a newspaper to complain. But now I am very disappointed,” says Martin R. The nurse is not the only one who expresses his displeasure with the editors of ‘Krone’.
The money is just coming in now
In May, the government promised nurses a bonus of one month’s wages. The money is just coming in now. “There is still 800 euros left. People are burning hot and pissed off,” says Gerald Mjka, VIDA President of the Health Department.
Not everyone gets the bonus
The state gets a lot of money back by deducting the employer’s contribution of 400 euros and 18 percent social security and income tax. The fact that the 158,000 registered nurses receive the subsidy, but obstetricians, employees of the medical-technical service and surgical assistants who perform work as nurses do not, causes additional nuisance.
Lower Austria adds 500 euros
The governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), quickly recognized the complaint and put 500 euros on the care bonus for every nurse in Lower Austria. Nurse Martin R. also lives in Lower Austria and is lucky. “But the money is only there because of the elections in January.”
