Since the partialization of cannabis in April 2024, doctors in Germany have seen considerably more treatments for mental behavioral disorders caused by the drug. This is the result of the current data from the KKH disease insurance company, which was published on Wednesday.
According to this, around 250,500 national people were influenced by diagnoses such as acute intoxicating situations, dependence or psychotic episodes in connection with cannabis – this corresponds to an increase of 14.5 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the KKH, this is the highest value of the past ten years and the leaking growth is also unusually high within a year.
Young adults are usually affected
The age group of 25 to 29 year olds is mainly affected. With 47,100 cases, 95 diseases are omitted per 10,000 inhabitants – about three times as much as on a national average. According to the KKH, the strong increase in the age group of 45 to 49 year olds is also striking: the number of diagnoses climbed by almost 25 percent per year, to 43 cases per 10,000 inhabitants.
The KKH emphasizes that these figures only show one section – namely people who have used medical help. Cases without medical treatment or that are assigned to other causes are not registered.
