The Political Academy (Polak) of the ÖVP made a change at the top on Monday: Christian Tesch became the new director, succeeding Elisabeth Mayrhofer. MEP Barbara Thaler completes the board of the Political Academy as the third vice-president – alongside the president of the National Council Wolfgang Sobotka and the former minister of agriculture Elisabeth Köstinger. Bettina Rausch remains chairman.
Tesch began his political career in the 1990s as federal president of the student union, was a municipal councilor in Krems and state manager of the Youth Party of Lower Austria. The independent political advisor and political trainer started at Polak in March 2018 as office manager for President Rausch. She praises Tesch’s “good sense of the diverse demands of political education”.
Mayrhofer, Tesch’s predecessor, is leaving the Political Academy after two years “to devote himself to a new entrepreneurial challenge”. According to Rausch, the European component and the innovation and technological competence in the Political Academy team should be strengthened with Thaler, a member of the European Parliament.
