The plenary session of Congress has given green light this Thursday, with the votes against PP, Vox and Ciudadanosuntil reform promoted by the Ministry of Equality of the Government of Spain which restores the text adopted in 2010 and allowing minors between the ages of 16 and 17 to abort without parental consent. The text will now continue to be discussed in the Senate.
The text also includes measures to ensure that this practice is carried out in public health centres. To do this, a list of conscientious objectors will be drawn up, the same as that already implemented in the Euthanasia Law passed in this legislature.
In addition, it includes the free distribution of the morning-after pill in health centers and sexual and reproductive health services, the promotion of methods of male contraception, rights regarding menstruation of women at all stages of life, a specific leave for women who experience very painful and disabling periods the distribution of menstrual hygiene products in institutions, prisons, women’s centers, public centers or social centers, or the obligation to provide sex education at all stages of education.
The law also includes measures to promote good practice at all stages of pregnancy, particularly during labor and postpartum; among them, the taking of an antepartum leave from the 39th week of pregnancy that will not consume a single day of maternity leave.
Likewise, it prohibits advertising and the work of agencies promoting surrogacy, an activity illegal in Spain.
New measures
