Date:

The President of the Government of Spain and the President of the PP held their last parliamentary debate of 2022 in the Senate this Wednesday, two days after the Constitutional Court paralyzed the law seeking its own renewal.

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchezhas insured this Wednesday in the Senate what Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s PP has gone “further” than Pablo Casadobecause he has achieved “mute” the Cortes Generales, after the decision of the Constitutional Court. For his part, the head of the opposition has asked to stop “disqualifying” the Constitutional Court and reducing democracy to “axis”while making it clear that the PP has not questioned the “legitimacy” of its election victory.

This is the last parliamentary debate of this year in the Senate between Sánchez and Feijóo, and it takes place just two days after the decision of the Constitutional Court, which paralyzed the law seeking renewal. However, the Spanish government, together with its partners, will promote a bill to unblock the renewal of the guarantee court, parliamentary sources reported on Tuesday.

Sanchez He confirmed that the president of the PP has been active in national politics for nine months, and “the only thing he has achieved is to silence the Cortes Generales”: “That is the great contribution of the PP of Feijóo”, he stated, adding that the PP wants Parliament “not to speak”, but he is going to do it “loud and clear”.

For example, he has indicated that the powers that “guide” and even “steer” the PP, as he has confirmed, are becoming “less hidden” and have reached the milestone of removing powers from the courts that the constitution had conferred on them. that is, the ability to propose, debate and legislate: “I’ve heard them say they’re willing to do whatever it takes, but they’ve gone too far,” snapped Sánchez.

The head of the Spanish government has stressed that Feijóo has “moved further than his predecessor”, Pablo Casado, and has attributed this to the fact that it may be “because he does not want to suffer the same fate as Mr. Casado”. After throwing his criticism of the PP in the face and calling him a “tyrant”, Sánchez has confirmed that the PP’s leader has lost “what little credit he had left”.

Feijóo: “Stop fooling the Spaniards”

Feijóovisibly angry, has asked Sánchez to stop “pissing the Spaniards”, and “stop provoking”. “Stop disqualifying the TC. Leave it now,” he requested, adding that “no European prime minister” speaks as the president of the government.

In addition, the PP leader has confirmed that “no one has questioned the legitimacy” of Sánchez’s election victory, but has blamed him for the steps he is taking, assuring that in these months he will “read the handbook of has perfected obedience to the independents”. In fact, he has asked if he already has a date to hold a consultation, as the independents ask.

Feijóo has accused the president of “stepping on the accelerator of institutional degradation” over the past month as his government goes “from fire to fire”, as he has stated. However, he has warned that the democratic and institutional architecture that has been strengthened over the past 40 years should not be “turned to ashes”. “They go for all settings,” he added.

Along the same lines, Feijóo has asked him “not to underestimate the intelligence of the Spaniards”, because, as he has pointed out, eliminating the crime of sedition does not improve territorial integrity, and reforming the crime of embezzlement strengthens the fight against corruption does not improve. and “sneaking in a reform of the judiciary through the back door” does not help the separation of powers.

In his last turn to speakhas Sánchez reproached the opposition leader for setting himself up as the constitutionalist party and considering that the rest are “anti-Spain”, as he has described it, but that they do not respect the deadlines set in the constitution or the mandate of the Cortes, as they are calling for early elections, nor in the deadline set to renew the General Council for the Judiciary and the Constitutional Court.
