The governor’s say in the appointment of the local ORF leadership becomes a subject in the Salzburg state parliament through an SPÖ application.
On the occasion of the most recent ORF affair in Lower Austria, the right of the provincial governor to have a say in the appointment of the ORF provincial director came up again in Salzburg. This is laid down in the ORF law. With regard to the “Krone”, no party had a problem with abolishing this prerogative of the abutment.
The SPÖ is now putting it to the test through an application from the state parliament. She wants the state government of Salzburg in Vienna to ensure that “the request for a statement from the state concerned is rejected when a state director is appointed,” as the text of the application states.
Although all parties have no problem with this move, SPÖ leader David Egger wants to challenge the ÖVP in particular. “After Wilfried Haslauer has paid lip service in the past that he does not care about the governor’s right to have a say in the ORF, I expect the ÖVP to approve our application in this matter,” he says. In the course of the discussion, the SPÖ also wants to initiate a redesign of the ORF Foundation Council.
