“Inspector Coincidence” helped police officers in the Tyrolean Oberland on Wednesday evening. The patrol discovered a damaged car with the ignition switched on in Obsteig (Imst district). Next to him sat a drunk who had both refused a breathalyzer test and concealed his identity. Eventually it turned out that there was an arrest warrant against the man.
At around 9:30 p.m., officers found the damaged car near an intersection while on patrol duty in Obsteig, with the ignition still on and the driver apparently at the driver’s door. When the police wanted to confront the man, he switched to “stubborn”.
Alcohol test denied, identity concealed
“The apparently heavily intoxicated driver refused both the identification and the alcohol test during the check,” the detectives said. Eventually it became clear why the suspect had remained silent.
In the course of the ensuing investigation, it turned out to be a 50-year-old local man for whom an arrest warrant existed. “It was a demonstration for detention,” police said.
Car used without permission
The man was arrested on the spot and taken to Innsbruck prison on Thursday. Apparently the car belonged to a friend. In any case, the suspect had started the car without permission.
