The Prosecutor’s Office for Economic and Corruption (WKStA) against ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) – the investigations are now in the final and will be concluded soon. An indictment is expected.
Bang in the Ibiza U Commission’s False Statement Investigation against ex-Chancellor Kurz, his former Chief of Cabinet and the ex-Director General of Casinos. The prosecutor’s office for affairs and corruption closes the case after 20 months, giving the lawyers only three weeks for further evidence.
Insiders assume a charge – up to three years in prison. After the (non-legally binding) acquittal of former FPÖ boss Heinz-Christian Strache, the WKStA is again taking a big risk. According to reports, 30 witnesses acquitted Kurz.
Former Finance Minister Thomas Schmid had sued Kurz for this case, among others. Kurz had denied in the subcommittee that he had even discussed the allocation of posts with Schmid before he was appointed sole director of the state-owned investment company ÖBAG. However, when questioned by the WKStA, Schmid emphasized that Kurz was very active here.
