With regard to connections between LH deputy Franz Schnabl, SPÖ top candidate for the state elections in Lower Austria, and the former Alizee Bank, there will be no further investigation by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA). “Due to a lack of initial suspicion”, no preliminary investigation has been launched, a spokeswoman for the authorities said on Thursday.
At the beginning of the week, the WKStA received a statement of facts. After appropriate investigation, the cause is now closed to the authority. The document questioned the financing of Schnabl’s nine percent stake in Alizee Bank (formerly M&A Bank, later Ells Bank), which took place in 2012.
“false remains false”
The state deputy gave its first comment on the allegations on Thursday morning. “False allegations remain false allegations, even if they are sent anonymously to the WKStA. I think these are dirty campaigns of the worst kind,” Schnabl said on the sidelines of a press conference in St. Pölten.
SPÖ regional director Wolfgang Kocevar took a similar view: “Those who clamored so loudly for a justice deal are now the ones who have had their catapults fired continuously. We expect it wasn’t the last dirty campaign attempt to get our top candidate to screw up.” The SPÖ expects an apology from the ÖVP, which “tweets up and down this fabricated advertisement”, and reserves the right to take legal action. .
