Time is running out for the final surveys in the ÖVP’s corruption investigation committee. There is still no consensus between the groups on the rest of the work plan. There is an SPÖ proposal in the room with three research days, which the ÖVP cannot.
The People’s Party, in turn, started a round this Friday for a summons from ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid, but has not received an answer to date. The chairman of the U committee, chairman of the National Council Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP), announced on Sunday in the ORF program “Hohes Haus” that he wanted to hold talks with the parties.
“In the coming period I will try to approach the parties more intensively and to reach a compromise.” Sobotka rejects drawing up the work plan without an agreement, as this would deviate from parliamentary practice.
The proof will soon end
But even if a compromise is reached, time is running out. Because the summonses for the informers can only be sent after agreement and formal discussion of the regulations.
It seems more than questionable whether potential information providers will respond to this in such a short period of time. Finally, the hearing ends in about two weeks on February 1.
