Teichtmeister scandal – Raab: “Addiction is no excuse”

Date:

Family Affairs Minister Susanne Raab spoke for the first time with the “Krone” about the child pornography scandal involving actor Florian Teichtmeister. “Reading all this will make you sick,” she said in shock. The ÖVP politician demands ruthless clarification. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner also spoke.

“I am a mother myself. That really gets under my skin,” says Raab. In addition to 100% clarification and possible identification of misconduct, also in the cultural sector, the minister also calls for “calling things by their own names. Because an addiction such as alcohol is not an excuse for such behavior here, but a mockery of the victims and an absolute trivialization!

need higher penalties
It’s about a disgusting business with the suffering of children, a real market. The Minister of the Family is now also demanding an increase in sentences, such as those of our neighbours. “The well-being of our children is what most deserves protection in our society. In Germany, possession of child pornography carries a prison sentence of up to five years, while in Germany it is a maximum of three years. In the case of distribution, that is ten years in prison in Germany and three in Austria.”

In addition, the victims would be traumatized for life and the videos and photos of abuse would be on the internet almost forever. Domestic criminal law should also be adapted to the digital age. Raab concludes: “I am in contact with Minister of Justice Zadic, she is a mother herself. We have a common interest.”

“Real Abuse of Real Children”
“We must clearly state what is at stake: namely brutal child abuse! And that is a crime,” emphasized Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) in a broadcast. “To avoid trivializing shameful and profoundly cruel acts, violence and abuse of children should never be described as a purely digital crime – it is about real abuse of real children in the real world,” says Gerhard Karner. His ministry points out that the current reform of the criminal justice system is aimed at intensifying the fight against such serious crimes that are spread through cyberspace.

Constitutional judge and attorney Michael Rami described Teichtmeister’s alleged crime as a “purely digital crime”. Rami represents the actor in media law cases. He had been criticized for his wording, in a clarification on Twitter defending the choice of words. This does not come from him, “but from jurisprudence”. According to Rami, it is clear to everyone that “behind such pictures there are real victims, namely abused children”.
