A verdict was passed in Vienna on Monday in the trial of ex-Green politician Christoph Chorherr. Chorherr, who had been charged with abuse of office and bribery, was found not guilty. He was acquitted – as were all co-defendants.
Christoph Chorherr, 62, as a former spokesperson for green planning in Vienna, faced allegations of “abuse of official authority” and “bribery”. According to the WKStA, he would have accepted donations to his association, which promotes school projects in South Africa, to bring about city council decisions.
Nine businessmen were also accused, including real estate juggler René Benko, industrialist Michael Tojner and real estate developers Erwin Soravia and Günter Kerbler. Chorherr allegedly accepted donations from them, according to the allegation. In return, the donors would have promised themselves benefits in the dedication process.
Allegations of abuse of office and bribery
The public prosecutor’s office for companies and corruption accused Chorherr of abuse of office and bribery, the entrepreneurs are accused of provisions on abuse of office and bribery in various forms of employee participation. All defendants had pleaded not guilty at the hearing and asked for an acquittal.
