Participants in a major demonstration against the Serbian government, half of it complained but about discomfort and a sudden loud noise. Videos spread on social media those groups of people showed that the other got in panic from one second to another. The opposition accuses the police to have used an actual forbidden noise weapon. Now UN activists have handed over a petition in which an international investigation is requested.
According to the Krenipromeni protest movement (about the change), 600,000 signatures were transferred on Tuesday to the UN office in Belgrade. Civil rights organizations have demanded more than 3,000 statements from protesters who complain about health problems due to the noise.
In addition to these statements, there are also photos that should prove forbidden use. A police car can be seen on this on which a large device is mounted (see photo above). This similar to a healthy cannon, also known as Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), from American production, said Military Expert Aleksandar Radic of the AFP press agency.
Minister of the Interior confirms the possession of the weapon
The Serbian government denies the use of an acoustic weapon. First she explained that the police did not have such a device. After the publication of the photos with the emergency car, Minister of the Interior said Ivica Dačić that the police had such a device, but not used it in the demonstration on March 15. President Aleksandar Vučić simply described the allegations as “lies”.
The Gulf of Protest in Serbia was fueled by the collapse of a Vordach station in the city of Novi Sad on November 1, in which 16 people were killed. The government is under pressure because of the continuous protests. At the end of January, Prime Minister Miloš Vučević declared his resignation.
