Stefan Kaineder, provincial councilor of Upper Austria, joined the singers: in his groovy blow song (see above) on his TikTok channel, the green politician calls in dialect for the expansion of renewable energy sources. The basic melody is based on the well-known sea shanty “Wellerman”. Judge yourself…
“The wind blows through the land, we would have it in our hands. Nimma wortn, i.e. aupockn, Windradl soin se drahn.” With calls like this, Kaineder refers in his song to the “slack” in the expansion of wind energy in Upper Austria: “A standstill that has fatal consequences, especially in times of energy shortages and expensive imports of fossil fuels”, Kaineder emphasizes in an accompanying press release.
Wind-„barak”
For his wind song, Kaineder chose the song form of the “shanty”, a traditional type of song used by sailors. The basic melody is based on the famous New Zealand folk song “Wellerman”. Kaineder’s song also calls for being active together and harvesting wind energy (“den Strom, den mochma söwa”). The climate crisis and the war in Ukraine are also the subject of the song.
In the second chorus there is also a direct reference to the national anthem of Upper Austria (Hoamatgsang), when it says: “Kemmts, Leidln, samma gscheit, it’s about Hoamatlaund”. According to their own statements, Kaineder and the Greens in Upper Austria want to use the wind “Shanty” to boost their “100 Wind Turbines for Upper Austria” campaign, which started at the end of 2022, and accelerate the energy transition to the long-awaited breakthrough reach.
