The criticism of Gottfried Waldhäusl, FPÖ provincial councilor in Lower Austria after his controversial migration slogan (“Then Vienna would still be Vienna”) does not stop. Now Justice Minister Alma Zadic spoke via Twitter: “We are all Vienna, we are all Austria!”
Waldhäusl caused a stir in the Puls 4 show “Pro und Contra”. One student pointed to her and her class’s migration background and stressed that they would not be in Vienna if Waldhäusl’s ideas about asylum had been implemented.
The answer: “To the question, if that had already happened, that many people were not in school here: Vienna would still be Vienna.”
Zadic to students: “You are all Vienna and part of our society“
Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens) now informs the affected students via Twitter: “You are all Vienna and part of our society. Never be denied that, neither by politicians nor by anyone.”
Edtstadler “bewildered”
Constitutional minister Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP) was also “baffled” by Waldhäusl’s choice of words. She “actually lacks the words,” said Edtstadler on the Puls24 program “Milborn,” “because it recalls the darkest chapters in this country’s history.” This diction is “incredible”.
SPÖ: “Shows human contempt in the FPÖ”
The fact that Waldhäusl, in front of the camera, denies young people who go to school in Austria the right to exist, shows a contempt for people in the FPÖ that makes you shiver,” SPÖ union manager Christian Deutsch said in a broadcast. The Sager should not be without For SPÖ leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner, Waldhäusl’s statement shows the direction the FPÖ is taking, and it is therefore her “deepest conviction that it is the task of social democracy to oppose this inhumane policy”.
The green women’s spokeswoman, Meri Disoski, asked on Twitter: “How much #contempt & #racism can be in one person?” Someone like Waldhäusl had no place in political office. Criticism also came via Twitter from Greens foreign policy spokeswoman Ewa Ernst-Dziedzic.
And the NEOS were also outraged. “This is pure racism that the kids had to experience,” pink human rights spokeswoman Stephanie Krisper criticized on Twitter. Waldhäusl would like it if “none of these children with a migration background were in Vienna”. The FPÖ does not see people as individuals, but wishes them away “collectively with hatred”.
