After the Waldhäusl scandal: – Now the school is threatened by right-wing extremists

Date:

The effects of the TV fight between Lower Austrian FPÖ provincial councilor Gottfried Waldhäusl and Viennese schoolchildren and his controversial migration sage (“Then Vienna would still be Vienna”) are becoming increasingly dramatic. Friday morning – on the last day of all days before the semester break – the Viennese school in question was the target of an attack by right-wing extremists.

A banner reading “Waldhäusl is right” was hung in front of the Laaerberg secondary school in Vienna-Favoriten. Worrying: information leaflets also demand that all migrants be removed from the country. And as a bonus, there is a threat that they will “take back Austria”.

SPÖ: “We are closed behind the school”
Muhammed Yüksek, SPÖ district councilor in Favoriten, is shocked on Twitter: “We stand behind the school as SPÖ favourites!” For him, Waldhäusl is ready to step down.

The SPÖ Vienna also tweeted clear words: “We will not be divided. No room for inhumane statements and untruths of FPÖ politicians!”

Waldhäusl-Sager excited
The excitement can be traced back to statements made by Waldhäusl on Tuesday evening on the Pulse 4 program “Pro und Contra”. One student pointed out her and her class’s migration background and stressed that they would not be in Vienna if Waldhäusl’s ideas about asylum had been implemented.

The liberal’s answer: “To the question, if that had already happened, that very many were not at school here: Vienna would still be Vienna.”

Waldhäusl: “I support this statement 100 percent”
Waldhäusl himself succeeded on Thursday. “I support this statement 100 percent, because the truth is acceptable.” If the FPÖ’s asylum policy had been introduced 20 to 30 years ago, “Vienna would still be Vienna”.

Furthermore, the liberal once again expressed the “fear that my four grandchildren will one day have to defend our homeland Austria with arms”. He also stated that he wanted to remain state councilor for asylum and animal welfare. He sees no reason to be given other responsibilities.

SOS Mitmensch demands recall of Waldhäusl
The criticism of Waldhäusl is great throughout Austria. Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) described the quote as “otherworldly”. The SPÖ called for his resignation and SOS Mitmensch started a petition aiming to fire Waldhäusl (over 8,000 signatures so far). The PVV was discussed on Thursday. State party leader Udo Landbauer made no comment, replying with “No comment”.

School class in Vienna the following week with Ludwig
Incidentally, the affected students will be received by Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) early next week – so after the semester break. A spokesman said Friday. The students already visited the House of Representatives on Thursday, where they visited the plenary hall at the invitation of Deputy Barbara Neßler (Green Party). There was an exchange with Minister of Justice Alma Zadic (Greens), who also grew up with a migration background in Vienna-Favoriten, and told the young people about her experiences.
