The lehendakari Inigo Urkullu and the first Vice President of Spain, Nadia Calvino, meet today to discuss the management of European funds Generation Next The meeting starts at 12:00 in Ajuria Enea.
Last December, by letter to Calviño, Urkullu requested an urgent meeting, asking the Basque government and provincial councils to become more involved in the decisions on the European funds. Today’s meeting is an answer to that request.
The Basque government believes it is necessary for Basque institutions to participate in the entire management process of the European Fund, but has expressed irritation on more than one occasion that the co-government promised by the Spanish government has not yet materialised. Urkullu expressed at the end of the year the need to change the situation to Calviño, in addition to communicating his concerns and complaints about this.
Deciding for what purpose and how to manage the European funds is essential for the Basque government because, according to government spokesman Bingen Zupiria, they should “serve to respond to the main challenges facing society”.
