All factions in the Basque Parliament have rejected a non-legislative proposal EH Bildu with the aim of promoting the transfer of competence for the training of all health specialties to the Basque Autonomous Community.

The coalition has challenged this initiative in the Basque Chamber, denouncing that the training skills of health workers are not in the hands of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country “it has become a problem” for the Basque health systemas “we are facing a lack of sufficient health workers because of this and other policies”.

All parliamentary groups (PNV, PSE-EE, Elkarrekin Podemos-IU PP+Cs and Vox) have rejected the text of EH Bildu asking Parliament to draft a bill in the first half of 2023 “with the aim of obtaining the power to train residents of all health specialties, for their subsequent transfer to the Congress of Spain and to take the necessary steps in the Cortes Generales”.

In the debate, EH Bildu MP Rebeka Ubera defended the need for this transfer to “have tools to best meet and plan for citizens’ needs” and believes that having the competence of health training “fundamental” to “organise, plan and ensure the quality of healthcare”.
